Why do my staircase steps feel uneven or unsafe?

Uneven riser height often makes a stairway feel unsafe because each step demands a different foot lift. A stair review checks the existing rise, run, tread edge, handrail, and supporting framing. Loose boards, worn finishes, or poor lighting may also add risk. A site assessment identifies whether the work calls for repair, rebuilding, or a wider remodeling plan.

Scope and Service Overview for Burien

Staircase construction focuses on the parts that make movement between levels safe and usable. We review the stair opening, stringers, treads, risers, handrail location, guard spacing, and nearby walls before setting the work scope.

This page helps buyers decide whether a stair project fits a larger remodel or needs its own plan. A new stairway may suit a layout change, unfinished space, or major renovation. A loose tread or damaged handrail may call for a narrower repair.

Customers should bring access details, photos, and their main concern to the first discussion. Our design and build process then connects spatial planning with construction, finishes, and final handover.

  • Check the existing stair opening and supporting framing.
  • Confirm tread depth, riser height, handrail location, and guard needs.
  • Decide whether the stair work belongs inside a wider remodel.
  • Identify access limits for the household, tenants, or staff.
  • Request a written scope before construction begins.

Clear planning gives you a defined decision before demolition or installation starts.

Process

How We Build and Review the Stairway

1

Review the existing stair area

We inspect the stair opening, landing, treads, risers, handrail points, guards, and visible support.

2

Set the stair layout

We develop the stair plan around the rise, run, tread depth, landing, and connection between levels.

3

Coordinate structural support

We plan the stringers, framing, floor opening, and nearby wall support before the finish surfaces are installed.

4

Build the stair components

We install the planned stair parts, including treads, handrails, guards, and related trim or finish work.

5

Review the finished access

We walk through the completed stair area with the customer and explain the final work at handover.

Why Use a Design and Build Team for Stairs

Coordinate the stair opening

We review the stair opening with the surrounding layout, flooring, walls, and finish work. Customers get a coordinated plan instead of a stair detail viewed alone. This service isn't the right fit when you only need a loose screw tightened or a small cosmetic touch-up.

Plan around daily access

Households and commercial clients need to know how people will move around the work area. We discuss access, disruption, and the order of construction before work begins.

Connect design with construction

Spatial planning and finish choices stay connected to the build. That helps the stairway fit the property's use, layout, and wider remodeling goals.

Use licensed project oversight

Our tradespeople are licensed, bonded, and insured. Customers also get transparent project planning and communication from concept through handover.

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

After experiencing water damage in our home, we needed to replace all our flooring, some kitchen cabinets, and redo our primary bath. Linda and her team truly saved the day after a disappointing experience with another contractor. She worked closely with us to choose the perfect tiles for our bathroom and find flooring that suited our home. Her contractors did exceptional work, from leveling the floors to installation and cabinet remaking, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Linda answered all our questions along the way, and we cannot speak highly enough of the work she and her team performed!

Questions About Building and Repairing Stairs

How is a safe staircase designed and built for Staircase Construction?

Riser height is checked first so each step follows a consistent walking pattern. The plan then addresses tread depth, handrail height, guard spacing, and structural support. We review the stair opening and landing before construction. Customers also receive a clear scope that connects the stair work with flooring, walls, trim, and other planned finishes.

What should I prepare before the stair consultation?

Property access details, stair photos, and your main safety concern help prepare for the consultation. Customers should note loose treads, uneven steps, missing rails, blocked landings, or layout goals. A list of nearby remodeling work also helps us plan the stair with flooring, paint, cabinetry, or wall changes.

Which stair details should I confirm before approving the work?

The written scope should confirm the stair layout, tread depth, handrail, guards, structural support, finishes, and handover. Customers should also ask how the work connects to nearby floors and walls. A clear plan reduces surprises because both sides can review the same parts before construction starts.

When does a stair repair become a rebuilding project?

A stair repair becomes a rebuilding project when the support, opening, layout, or several stair parts need change. A loose tread alone may have a narrower scope. Damaged framing, uneven steps, missing support, or a new route between levels needs a broader review. We explain the difference after assessing the existing stair area.

Why does stair access change the work plan?

Stair access changes the plan because workers need room to remove parts, move materials, protect nearby finishes, and keep people away from the work area. Households, tenants, and staff may use the same route. We discuss access before construction and coordinate the work with the property's daily use.
