About

How fitted storage changes a room

Custom built-ins connect storage to the way a room is used. We plan cabinets, open shelving, drawers, desks, media areas, and display zones as one design when the space calls for it. The work can address an empty wall, an awkward alcove, or furniture that never fits well. It may also include flooring, painting, fixtures, or related finish work when those items belong in the wider remodel. Cost and scope rise with wall length, cabinet depth, door and drawer choices, trim detail, finish type, electrical changes, and site access. Our view is simple: spend first on the layout and storage function, then add detail where it will be seen and used most.

Process

Steps for planning and building fitted storage

1

Discuss the room and its purpose

We use the consultation to learn what the room must hold, how people move through it, and what the client wants to change.

2

Measure walls, openings, and access

We review room dimensions, wall conditions, floor levels, ceiling lines, doors, windows, outlets, and work access before shaping the scope.

3

Develop the built-in layout

We set cabinet zones, shelf spacing, drawer use, trim lines, finishes, and related work within a customized project plan.

4

Document the agreed scope

We document the agreed scope before engagement begins, including the built-in work, finish selections, and related remodel items.

5

Build, finish, and hand over

We coordinate construction and finish work, check the completed installation against the plan, and complete final handover.

What to prepare before planning built-ins

A few clear choices help us shape the first built-in layout around your room.

  • List what the storage must hold, including large, small, fragile, or frequently used items.
  • Mark the wall, alcove, or room where you want fitted storage.
  • Gather inspiration for cabinet doors, open shelves, trim, colors, and finishes.
  • Note outlets, switches, vents, windows, doors, and furniture that must remain accessible.
  • Set a working budget so we can weigh layout, materials, and finish detail together.

Overall I enjoyed working with Linda and her team. Even though there were no major redesign of spaces and I knew exactly what tile/fixtures/cabinets etc I wanted I still was appreciative of her insight on certain details and choices. It was very easy to collaborate with her. She makes an effort to be in-tune with a client. She was very responsive and took care of everything that needed attention as soon as she was able too. She made sure that I was listened to and taken care of as a client with her subcontractors. I would work with her again.

Best remodel experience we have ever had. The oversight, careful workmanship and ownership of the project was above expectations. Our design team was amazing. We also had the same person do all the work start to finish and was a total Pro. Could not recommend enough and will be doing any and all projects through them. This place is a gem.

Leaving a long overdue review. Linda helped us remodel our bathroom and kitchen last year. We also did some flooring improvements, and some electrical and plumbing work along the way. The pricing was very reasonable, and we appreciated that Linda was always conscious of our budget, when we made adjustments to our plan. The work was delivered very quickly on promised timelines. She had some really good suggestions around the choice of flooring, which we are thankful for (especially looking back after a year). Also appreciate her sense of style.. it helped us make the right choices for countertops, tiles and fixtures. It all looks great, our guests often comment on how beautiful our kitchen looks. Thank you!

Questions about planning and pricing built-ins

What changes the cost of a custom built-in project?

Wall length, cabinet depth, storage parts, finish materials, trim detail, and site conditions change the project cost. A consultation lets us review the room and prepare a customized scope and estimate. Open shelving may require less work than a full cabinet wall, while drawers, doors, lighting changes, and detailed trim add planning and construction steps. We discuss those trade-offs before the scope is documented.

How can I keep the built-in budget under control?

A focused layout controls cost better than adding detail across every surface. Start with the storage zones you use most, then compare open shelves, closed doors, drawers, trim, and finish options. We explain what each choice changes in the scope. Free consultations give you room to discuss priorities before selections are finalized.

Who provides custom built-ins for homes and commercial spaces?

HomeRemodelSammamish.info provides custom built-ins for homeowners and commercial clients. We manage design, spatial planning, construction, finishes, and final handover through our remodeling and renovation service. The scope may include a storage wall, office shelving, retail display features, or related interior work. A consultation helps define which pieces belong in the project.

Can built-ins fit walls that are not square?

Yes, built-ins can fit out-of-square walls when the design accounts for the room's measured conditions. We review wall lines, floor levels, ceiling height, openings, and nearby trim before setting cabinet faces. Filler pieces, scribe details, and trim may help close visual gaps. Accurate measurement matters because standard furniture cannot respond to every room edge.

What should I decide before requesting an estimate?

Your storage needs, preferred layout, finish direction, and room constraints give us the best starting point. Make a list of what the built-in must hold and note outlets, vents, windows, doors, and furniture that stay. Photos and inspiration also help. We then use the consultation to shape a customized scope and estimate around your priorities.

Can built-ins include electrical or related remodeling work?

Yes, built-ins can be planned with related electrical, flooring, painting, plumbing, or fixture work when the wider project needs it. The scope must show which work belongs with the installation and which room conditions affect access. We coordinate design and construction services for remodeling projects, then document the agreed work before engagement begins.

Are built-ins suitable for an office or retail space?

Yes, built-ins suit offices and retail spaces when storage, display, and movement must share one room. We plan around staff use, customer access, work surfaces, finish choices, and the disruption that construction may cause. Tenant improvements and commercial renovations can include specialty built-in features when they support the space's daily function.

Key Points About Custom Built-Ins

  • Built-ins should start with the room's storage needs and measured conditions.
  • Open shelves, doors, and drawers solve different access and clutter problems.
  • Trim and filler pieces help fitted storage meet uneven walls and ceilings.
  • Electrical, flooring, painting, and fixture work may belong in the wider scope.
  • Our consultation leads to a customized scope and estimate.

When Customers Call Us About Custom Built-Ins

1

Unused Wall Becomes Home Storage

An empty wall can leave books, media, office items, or household goods without a clear place. Built-ins need the right depth, shelf spacing, and door mix for the items you plan to store. Bring a room sketch and a list of those items to the consultation, so we can discuss a useful layout before finish details take over.

2

Awkward Alcove Needs A Better Fit

An alcove may have uneven walls, a low ceiling, or nearby trim that limits standard furniture. Our design must account for those conditions before cabinet faces and filler pieces are chosen. Share photos, room measurements, and any access concerns, then we can assess whether shelving, drawers, or closed storage best fits the space.

3

Office Or Retail Wall Needs Order

A commercial room may need storage, display space, and work surfaces without blocking staff movement or customer access. The scope should account for daily operations, finish durability, and minimal disruption during the work. A consultation lets us review the room's function and connect the built-in plan with other tenant improvement or retail renovation needs.
